Frequently Asked Questions

How often and when do you practice?

We practice twice a week. Typically 6:30 until 8:30. Younger age groups usually finish earlier.

We cannot specify exact days, as the High School teams have priority, and our practices have to work around their schedule.  If their games or meets are rained out, our practices are subject to being moved.

Where do you practice?

All of our practices are at Creekview High School.

When/Where are meets?

Our meets start at the end of April, and continue through the end of May. They are on Saturdays, and take the majority of the day to complete. Our meets are at various facilies in the northern Metro Atlanta Area. Past locations have included Roswell, Alpharetta, Canton, Woodstock, and Kennesaw.

Can I miss practices/meets?  What about conflicts?

We do not have any requirement for attendance, other than to let your coach know, especially for meets.  Coaches have to form relay teams, and enter athletes into events, so it makes their job much simpler if they know ahead of time that you will be late, leaving early, or not there at all.

You certainly can come to just 1/2 of a meet, although that would limit the event choices.

Does my child need to know about track? Or is it too late for my child to start track?

Not at all. We are a recreational club. As such, we have children who are brand new to track start with us every year. On the other side, we have several athletes who qualify for the state and regional Junior Olympics, and pretty much everything in between.

What events do you have?

Running: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m

Running Relay: 4*100m, 4*400m

Field: Shot Put, Javelin, Long Jump, High Jump (Bantam and older), Discus (Midget and older)

What events will my child run?

You, your child, and your coach will figure out what events per meet in which to participate. We encourage the athletes to try all the events. Every year, we have 2-3 who earn the Great Grizzly award for completing every event.

What is your "season"?

We start practice in Mid March, through the end of our Recreational Season.

Recreational Meets run from Late April through the end of May.

Junior Olympic Meets start in early June, and can continue through July or August.

My child will be in the Junior Olympics?

Possibly!  This is the entry point for that program.  There are more details on the USATF site, but here is the summary:

- All athletes are eligible for the Area Meets.  The GA Association currently has 3 Areas.

- Based on Area performance, athletes can qualify for the Association meet.  Some years, the qualifying is waived, and the Area is used for seeding only.

- Performance at State qualifies for Regional.  We are in the South East Region.

- Regional Performance qualifies for National.
