Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ's

How often and when do you practice?

For track, we practice 2 times per week typically from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. For XC, we practice 3 times a week from 6:00pm until 7:30pm. We cannot specify exact days, as the High School teams have priority, and our practices have to work around their schedule. If their games or meets are rained out, our practices are subject to being moved or cancelled.

Where do you practice?

Track practices are at Creekview High School. XC practices can occur at a number of locations such as Creekview HS, Boling Park, Seqouyah Park, Cherokee Veterans Park, or Creekland MS.

Can I miss practices/meets? What about conflicts?

We do not have any requirement for attendance, other than to let your coach know, especially for meets. Coaches have to form relay teams, and enter athletes into events, so it makes their job much simpler if they know ahead of time that you will be late, leaving early, or not there at all.

Does my child need to know about track or XC? Or is it too late for my child to start track or XC?

Not at all. We are a recreational club. As such, we have children who are brand new to track and XC as well as seasoned athletes in every age group.

What Track and Field events do you have?

Running Events: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m

Running Relay Events: 4x100m, 4x400m

Field Events: Shot Put, Javelin, Long Jump, High Jump, Discus

What track events will my child run?

You, your child, and your coach will figure out what events per meet in which to participate. We encourage all 1st year athletes to try all of the events.

What distance will my child run in XC?

Race distances for XC will vary by age group:

  • Ages 8&Under (2k)

  • Ages 9-12 (3k)

  • Ages13-14 (4k)

  • Ages 15-18 (4k developmental season & 5k post season)

Who are the Coaches?

All Coaches and team mom/dad's are volunteers. All have to complete an annual USATF Background Check as well as complete USATF Safesport training that covers critical areas such as bullying, harassment, physical and emotional misconduct. We also have several coaches on staff that are USATF Level 1 or Level 2 certified coaches, Cross Country Specialists, or have completed additional USATF training.
